Events Raise Awareness of Daily Life of Homeless Residents
SANTA CLARA COUNTY, Calif. --As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, it is an important time to pause and reflect on what to be thankful for. Over 10% of San Jose's residents live below the poverty line, and thousands of people will be homeless in our community this holiday season.
In honor of National Hunger and Homeless Awareness week, the Valley Homeless Healthcare Program (VHHP) will be holding a number of events to raise awareness about the daily lives and struggles of our homeless neighbors.
Statistics about homelessness in SCC and US
Close to 2 million Americans experience homelessness each year. Based on the 2011 Santa Clara County Census and Survey, 7045 homeless individuals were identified in the 2011 point-in time count.
